The Fixcraft AD ASTRA is a 700c Frame & Fork set designed to be fast, agile, and strong enough to handle the punishment of Hardcourt Bike Polo. The challenge with any production frame is creating something that will serve a large cross section of riders with different needs. We would innovate a new idea, prototype it, test is over and over, re-evaluate, scrap it, then start over again. Over the past 3 years we have been working with some of the best players in the game to get this right for the widest range of players possible. We did it.

700c Platform:
We chose 700c as our platform for the Ad Astra because of speed. 700c wheels are fast as hell, and that is one of the biggest advantages you can have on the court. We sucked the back wheel in big time to make wheelie turns effortless while also making the extra beefy drop outs long enough for maximum flexibility of rear wheel location.

“I can say with 100% confidence that the Fixcraft AD ASTRA is as close as you can get to the agility of a 26” bike, while keeping the speed and tracking that a 700c bike gives you” - Nick Kruse, contributing designer & Fixcraft team rider

“As someone who prefers to have their weight further over the front of the bike, I found that the shortened wheelbase really improved my ability to pivot the bike. This is a skill that I hardly use, but found myself doing again once I built this frame up. Players that want to get better at pivoting or already use this skill a lot are going to love this bike.” - Dustin Riggs, GUARDIANS, contributing designer & Fixcraft team rider

Sizing:
We looked to BMX for our design cues and created something a little non traditional as far as sizing goes. The stand over height of each of the 3 sizes is lower than normal 700c bikes because we dropped the top tube 1” in the back. This allows more room for the rider, but doesn’t hamper pinching the top tube with your knees when handling the ball over the front wheel, or hopping to get back into position. Toe overlap was minimized, and on some sizes completely eliminated for safety. The best news of all? The size small is designed to fit smaller riders that have in the past written off a 700c because of size. Ladies, this means you. See sizing chart below to see which one would fit you the best, and feel free to message us for more help.

“I ride 28c tires with 175 mm crank arms. There is no toe overlap whatsoever. I don't think I've ever played polo on a bike without toe overlap that doesn't ride like a touring bike. This frame pulls it off.” - Dustin Riggs, GUARDIANS, contributing designer & Fixcraft team rider

Build:
The Ad Astra production frame is constructed out of 4130 chromoly at one of the top BMX factories. We double butted every tube that wouldn’t sacrifice strength, and the result is one of the stiffest bikes on the market with a manageable weight. Besides many of our team riders contributing feature ideas, we turned to the pros in the BMX design world to help us avoid pitfalls they have discovered and solved in their many years of designing BMX frames. It was an incedible advantage to leapfrog the polo competition to offer this much strength at such a weight.

“I’m a solid 220 facebook pounds (250 real life pounds) and I’m NOT the kind of player that’s easy on equipment. I broke my previous custom build in 5 places, inside of 3 months. The Ad Astra is solid as a rock. Grab a handful of brake and there’s zero fork flex. Wheelie turn all day and there’s no chain stay flex. Sprint on the joust and there’s no bottom bracket flex. It’s solid” - Matt Krofcheck, AD ASTRA field tester

Features:

Front end:
The integrated headset and built in race on the fork marries together perfectly for a completely stiff front end. Less parts mean more stiffness and no more broken cups. The Fork has removable V-posts, and Disc Brake tab as well for maximum flexibility. The optional Fixcraft disc guard ( available only with purchase of AD ASTRA frame) was designed for the AD ASTRA fork. It’s a proven, simple 2 piece design that is effective, strong, and easy to travel with.

Back end:
The rear dropouts are an extra beefy 6mm thick with a super simple, light, and effective tensioner that goes directly through the middle of them. Rear drop outs also have a full 50 mm of travel to dial in exactly where you want to put that rear wheel. Removable V-posts are located in an inverted position for riders that want two brakes on their rig. Bottom bracket is a standard Euro style for maximum transmission options whether BMX is your thing, or MTB style is.
